Lockdown was a "potential disaster" for Warley Woods Community Trust but as golf courses were allowed to reopen weeks ago it has brought back one of their major incomes and the trust is now "stable".

Back in April Dame Julie Walters released a video appeal to raise funds for Warley Woods.

The actress, who grew up in Smethwick, asked for people to donate to preserve the woods, for which she is a patron.

The cafe on site was able to reopen on Monday.

Trust manager Viv Cole

Trust manager Viv Cole said: "The building is almost completely open, the cafe opened on Monday.

"Throughout lockdown people have been using the site and the golf course reopened in late May.

"The cafe brings in people and they then come and learn about the trust.

"There are still a few restrictions such as the community room as there aren't many things people can do in there, such as meetings or baby ballet.

"Lockdown was a potential disaster for the trust, but it was better when golf courses could reopen as that is our major income, so at the moment we are stable."
