The four fire crews were at the scene for just under six hours in Hagley Road West, last night, after receiving a 999 call at 9.19pm last night.

The kitchen was completely destroyed by the blaze, and around 50 per cent of the ground floor was smoke damaged, West Midlands Fire Service said.

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: "We got a call at 9.19pm to Hagley Road West, Bearwood, it was a 999 call.

"We sent four fire engines to the scene there were 18 firefighters roughly.

"The stop message came in at 3.02am this morning, it says it was a kitchen fire in a ground floor pub.

"The fire was confined to the room of origin but the kitchen was completely destroyed in the fire with approximately 50 per cent smoke damage to the ground floor.

"Six firefighters wore breathing apparatus and they used two hose reel jets and a CO2 extinguisher to put the blaze out.

"Due to the smoke logging in the ground floor we used a ventilation fan and a thermal imaging camera to check there were no hotspots.

"Three people received precautionary checks from the ambulance service.

"Gas and electric were isolated. The fire has been recorded as accidental."
