Oldbury road closed after car hits lamppost

An Oldbury road was closed after a car hit a lamppost.

Firefighters, paramedics and police were called to Pottery Road at about 9.30pm yesterday.

Police said they believe two men left the scene but later turned up in hospital.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: "We were called to reports of a car colliding with a lamppost in Pottery Road, Oldbury at about 9.30pm yesterday .

"It is understood two men left the scene but later presented at hospital with injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

"Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information can contact us, quoting log 3774 of 21 June, via Live Chat at west-midlands.police.uk, or call 101."

The road was closed while council workers dealt with the damaged lamppost.

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: "We got a call at 9.29pm yesterday evening from the ambulance service.

"It was a road traffic collision involving a car and a lamppost.

"We sent crews from Oldbury and Smethwick, nine firefighters in total.

"The stop message came in at 10.25pm last night.

"Highways were isolating the lamppost as it was damaged. The incident was left with Sandwell Council.

"Pottery Road was closed and was going to be until the lamppost was removed.

"Police were also in attendance."

Jamie Arrowsmith, spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "We were called to reports of a car that had crashed into a lamppost on Pottery Road, Oldbury at 9.25am.

"One ambulance attended the scene, however on arrival there were no patients for us to assess and we were stood down."
