A spokesman from West Midlands Fire Service said that ten firefighters were sent to the scene.

Video footage of the blaze showed thick grey smoke billowing into the sky above the Co-op.

Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to extinguish the blaze.

Foley Drive was closed as a result of the fire but Tame Road remained open as normal.
