The teenager is believed to have been a pillion passenger on a moped that was hit on Monday at 7.20pm in Rocky Lane, near Great Barr.

A car made off from the scene and West Midlands Police has launched an investigation to trace the vehicle and its occupants.

Several people told detectives that another moped was being ridden in tandem with the bike, and the rider was also spotted leaving the scene.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "Our enquiry so far suggests that the two mopeds were being ridden in tandem when one of them might have been rammed by a silver car.

"The pillion passenger and two teenagers from the second moped have been in contact with officers about what happened."

Two ambulances, two paramedic officers and a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic attended the scene.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "When ambulance staff arrived at the scene, they found police officers administering CPR to a moped rider, a teenage boy.

"Ambulance crews quickly took over resuscitation efforts to administer advanced life support on scene before the boy was conveyed on blue lights to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham in a critical condition."

Anyone who was in the area and saw what happened, or people who have dash-cam or cycle cam footage, have been urged to contact West Midlands Police via 101 or through their website, quoting log number 3771 of 22/03/21.
