The officer suffered back injuries when his motorbike was involved in a collision with a car at a junction on the A4041 Queslett Road just after 3.30pm on Tuesday.

He was taken to hospital where he remained on Wednesday morning but his injuries are not thought to be serious, West Midlands Police said.

The driver of the car stopped at the scene and is said to be helping police with their enquiries. Photos showed how the red car was left with major front end damage while the road was left covered in debris.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 3.37pm on Tuesday to reports of an RTC involving a car and a motorcyclist at the junction of the A4041 and Cotleigh Grove, Great Barr, Birmingham.

"An ambulance, paramedic officer and a critical care paramedic attended. The motorcyclist, a man, was assessed on scene and found to have sustained no apparent serious injuries.

"He was given treatment on scene before being taken to Sandwell Hospital."

The road was closed for a short time while the debris was cleared, a police spokesman added. No arrests have been made.
