West Midlands Police’s Force Response Unit were called to Hassop Road, near The Beeches pub, on New Year's Eve.

They were joined by crews from West Midlands Fire Service and the Royal Logistics Corps’ Bomb Disposal Unit.

A man clearing a home came across what he suspected was an explosive substance at around 12.25pm.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “The Army Bomb Disposal unit was called as a precaution and removed a quantity of gunpowder.

"It’s understood the previous resident was a legal firearms owner.

"No-one was injured and there was no requirement for any properties to be evacuated.”

Police officers with the force's response team also tweeted from the scene.
