The deadline to claim the prize has now passed, meaning the windfall will instead go to charity.

Camelot said the ticket-holder bought their Lotto ticket in Sandwell on July 22, but the deadline to claim their prize was at midnight on January 18.

The money, plus the interest it has earned, has now passed over to help National Lottery Good Cause projects.

Andy Carter, senior winners’ advisor at The National Lottery, said: “Unfortunately, I can confirm that the ticket-holder did not come forward within the deadline to claim their prize.

“And now, sadly, they have missed out on this substantial amount of money.”

Valid claim

“In the current situation, we’re encouraging everyone to check their tickets online at national-lottery.co.uk or by downloading the National Lottery app, and to only buy or check their tickets in retail in line with government guidance.”

With all National Lottery draws, players have 180 days from the day of the draw to claim their prize if they have the winning ticket.

All prizes that do not receive a valid claim after 180 days, and any interest they have earned, are added to the pot for National Lottery Good Causes across the country.

To date, more than £42 billion has been raised and distributed to National Lottery Good Causes through more than 625,000 individual grants.

Anyone who has any queries or who believes they have the winning ticket for any of the National Lottery draws within the 180-day deadline should call the National Lottery Line on 0333 234 5050 or email help@national-lottery.co.uk
