The Wolves All Star team went head-to-head with members of staff from SBBS Building and Scaffolding Limited, based in Wednesbury, at Bentley Leisure Pavilion on Sunday.

The family friendly match was organised to raise much-needed funds for Smile for Joel – the charity set up in memory of a Black Country family who were devastated by the Tunisia terror attack of 2015.

Student Joel, from Wednesbury, died alongside uncle Adrian Evans, of Bilston, grandfather Patrick Evans and 35 others in the terror attacks near Sousse.

In the end, the Wolves All Star team won the match, leading 3-1.

The all star team featured ex-players including Neil Edwards, Adam Proudlock, Paul Jones, Colin Taylor and Nathan Lamey.

The event, which also included family entertainment and a disco, has so far raised more than £3,000 for the charity – with donations still rolling in.

Joe Norton, who works for SBBS, came up with the idea for the charity football match along with Mark Gainham, director of the company, and Craig Russon, the business and development manager, who all took part in aid of supporting families of victims of murder and terrorism.

Mr Norton said: "The whole day went really well. Lots of people turned out which was great.

"I played in the SBBS team and it was a great game – and the Wolves All Star team played a great game.

"We have raised over £3,000 and we are really pleased with that. Everyone here at the company, Smile for Joel is a chairty close to our hearts having known the family. We could not think of a better charity to raise funds for."

Suzy Evans, Joel's mother, added: "It was an amazing day. We were really pleased with the event and the sun came out for us which was lovely – and lots of people turned out to watch the match.

"We really want to thank SBBS for organising the day and the Wolves All Star team too."
