The annual event in Stone Cross, West Bromwich, had looked set to be cancelled after organisers said they were struggling with rising costs.

But following discussions with council bosses, the authority has agreed to hand over £1,000 in funding.

A council spokesman said: “We’re very pleased to confirm that the St George’s Day parade in Stone Cross and the event at Dartmouth Park afterwards will be going ahead on Sunday, April 28.

“We had a good meeting with the organisers and the council has given them a grant of up to £1,000 to ensure the event will go ahead.

“We will also continue to work with them to make sure they can access grant funding in the future.

“We’re pleased that this community event is back on and we hope everyone attending has a great day out.”

Organiser Mark Whitehouse said: “We’re really pleased we can continue our good relationship with Sandwell Council this year and in the future.

“We hope the event will go from strength to strength.”
