The Great Stourbridge Fairtrade Chocolate Bake Off and Eat was held at St Thomas's Church Hall, in Market Street, on Saturday and attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Dudley.

Virginia Williams, from Stourbridge Fairtrade Group said that about £50 was raised for the Fairtrade Foundation when cakes were cut up and served.

She said: "We had a number of adult entries, I think about 10, and a lovely entry from an eight-year-old boy.

"The mayor came and we had a good number of people enjoying the cakes after the judging.

"We were very pleased with the overall impact of it drawing attention to the needs of cocoa farmers in particular in West Africa.

"We've just had some more money and I think we've raised about £50.

"The main purpose was to make a bit of a splash about Fairtrade and that it gives farmers a fair price for what they have grown and we want to encourage people to look for the Fairtrade mark."
