Driver cut from car and taken to hospital after crash

A driver was cut from his car by firefighters and taken to hospital after a two-car crash in a village.

Emergency services were called to the crash on the junction of Pedmore Road and High Street in Lye just before 4.30am today.

West Midlands Fire Service tweeted saying: "Stourbridge and Brierley Hill crews were in attendance at a road traffic collision involving two cars.

"One male was suffering lower back pain and released from the vehicle using holmatro cutting equipment and received first aid and precautionary checks by paramedics. Crews made the scene safe. Police were also in attendance."

West Midlands Ambulance Service tweeted saying: "Considering the damage, this could have been a lot worse.

"The driver of one car was assessed and treated at the scene by ambulance staff before being taken to Russells Hall Hospital.

"The other driver was discharged at the scene. An ambulance and a paramedic officer went to the road traffic collision."
