Officers from West Midlands Police were called to a Dudley Council block of flats in St George's Road yesterday after neighbours said they were concerned about a woman who hadn't been seen for some time.

After forcing entry to the flat, the woman, who was believed to be in her 40s and lived alone, was found dead.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "Officers were called at 9.38am to a flat in Netherton by concerned neighbours.

"The body of a woman was found, but the death is not believed to be suspicious."

Councillor Laura Taylor, cabinet member for housing and community services at Dudley Council, said: “We are aware of the tragic death of a council tenant and our thoughts go out to their friends and family at this terribly sad time.

"While we’re not able to comment on individual circumstances, we have liaised with the police and have visited the property to take care of essential arrangements."
