Hundreds of people gathered in Halesowen town centre to watch on as Corbyn gave a speech.

Labour is targeting Tory MP for Halesowen and Rowley Regis, James Morris, who holds a majority of 5,253.

The party has been talking up its hopes for a General Election as Conservative Prime Minister Theresa May faces struggles over the UK's Brexit deal with the EU.

The visit came as Tory party members begin arriving in Birmingham for their autumn conference.

When asked if he felt the party was ready to lead for people in the Black Country and Staffordshire, Mr Corbyn said: “Absolutely - by investment, by social justice and investment in housing and infrastructure.

“And obviously the points I made at conference about workers rights, nursery opportunities and proper funding for our education system.”

He said Labour was ready to take back seats they lost in the last General Election election such as Walsall North and Tory-held seats like Halesowen and Rowley Regis.

Mr Corbyn said: “Yes we are. I have been to more than 80 constituencies in the last year.

“I have been many times in the West Midlands and you are going to see me many many more times in the West Midlands. I love it.”
