A section of Quarry Bank High Street was sealed off on Tuesday evening.

Police said the operation was 'part of an ongoing efforts to tackle gun crime in the region' but that no arrests were made and no firearms were found.

Detective Chief Inspector Annie Miller, from West Midlands Police CID, said: “Gun crime continues to be priority for West Midlands Police and we are committed to taking illegally held firearms out of the hands for criminals.

“If anyone has information on the criminal possession of firearms in our region, I’d urge them to pass that information on to us either by phoning 101, or by calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 55 111.”
