More than half of the caravans have now been moved on from the Flood Street car park, where travellers were spotted on Monday.

A wooden barrier was removed for the travellers to get into the car park and the incident has been referred to the police.

Councillor Laura Taylor, cabinet member for housing, communities and residents’ welfare, said: “More than half the caravans have now left the site and we are looking at our legal position in relation to the remaining few caravans.

“A barrier was removed to gain entry to the car park and we have reported it to police.”

It comes after four caravans, along with cars and vans, were spotted in May.

Dudley Council wants to build a site for travellers to camp at in the borough but the plans have been put on hold since a proposed site in Coseley was scrapped in January.

The authority is set to go back to the "drawing board" before discussing the issue again.

West Midlands Police has been contacted for comment.
