The couple have won a number of awards over previous years.

They have won both gold and silver awards from Bunches and Bows Dudley flower shop when it previously held gardening competitions.

Donald, 80, said his gardening also acts as a therapy to help him deal with his cancer.

He has been twice diagnosed with the disease, but now in remission, he spends nearly all his days every summer with Barbara, 78, keeping it blossoming.

"And for the last two years we've sent for plants from Jersey.

"My wife is an ex-florist and as I'm retired it's something for me to do.

"I've had 10 operations but I am able to do gardening and it's therapeutic for me.

"When it's nice I'm out in the garden nearly every day and my wife helps me as well."
