Construction starts on new £12m casino in Dudley
Work has started on a new £12 million casino and entertainment venue at Castlegate Retail Park in Dudley town centre.
Casino 36’s project is due to take a year and it is expected to open in the summer of 2020.
The venue will employ more than 100 people.
The two-storey building will have the casino and bar on the first floor and an entertainment venue on the ground floor.
A ground breaking ceremony was held on Friday at the site and was attended by Adrian Ballard, Casino 36 director; Mayor of Dudley, Councillor David Stanley; Dudley North MP Ian Austin and Corin Crane, the chief executive of the Black Country Chamber of Commerce.
Mr Ballard said he was inspired to invest in Dudley thanks to Dudley Council’s commitment to regenerating the town centre.
“Dudley has, in my eye, always been a leading market town. The plans to move the area forward are admirable, and something I am keen to be involved in,” he said.
“I feel the opportunities our new site will provide will complement these plans and be an additional vehicle to bring much needed tourism back to the borough.
"When considering which new facilities to offer, we didn’t want to just cater to an existing client market.
"We are determined to provide something that the area is lacking, and are focused on providing new facilities in a friendly and safe environment where people can relax in an exciting and fresh new setting.”
Councillor Stanley said: “Dudley Council is committed to supporting regeneration, investment and enterprise in Dudley borough and it was a wonderful experience to visit the site where this new business will be based.
“I am delighted they have chosen Dudley for this £12m development, it be a good addition to the leisure and retail offer at Castlegate.”
Mr Austin said: “I am delighted that there is new investment in Dudley and that 100 new jobs will be created for local people.
“There are lots of exciting things happening in the town, and I was really glad to be down at the site to be part of the ground breaking ceremony and see the start of this £12m new development.”
Mr Crane added: “Casino 36 are a great local success story and their expansion into Dudley comes after substantial investment into their casino in Wolverhampton.
“It will also put them in the heart of Dudley which is going through a period of huge investment from the Metro extension, the development of the Institute of Technology, the massive expansion of the Black Country Living Museum. Casino 36 will hopefully become a key part of our local tourism offer and nightlife.”
Casino 36 also runs casinos in Temple Street,Wolverhampton and in Stockport.
