Black smoke pours from Dudley double-decker bus blaze

Black smoke poured over Dudley this lunchtime after a double-decker bus caught fire in the town.

Firefighters were sent to the station on Fisher Street after the double-decker caught fire at 1.10pm today.

Bus services in the area were disrupted as a result of the blaze, the cause of which is not yet known.

A West Midlands Fire Service spokesman said: "We received a 999 call at 1.10pm at Dudley Bus Station on Fisher Street.

"We've currently got a fire engine and a brigade response vehicle both from Dudley – eight firefighters in total.

"The incident involves on double decker bus which is well alight. Two firefighters are wearing breathing apparatus and we've currently got three hose reel jets on the blaze.

"The incident is ongoing."

A National Express spokesman added: "A National Express West Midlands double decker bus on service 6 caught fire just after 1300 at Dudley bus station.

"Emergency services were called to the scene and the area was evacuated safely.

"We are doing a thorough investigation into the cause of this fire.

"And we'd like to apologise for any disruption to people's journeys caused by this incident."
