An illegal travellers camp has moved back on to Woodside Park, in Dudley, after leaving less than a week ago.

Dudley Council had worked to secure an injunction from the courts after around 30 caravans had moved on to the park on August 10.

Now ward councillors have said the travellers are ‘making a mockery’ of the local authority and have called for better action to be taken.

Qadar Zada, ward councillor for Netherton, Woodside and St Andrew’s, said: “I have written to the council to say the current strategy is ineffective.

"There has been instances where people have taken it into their own hands.

“I think something serious is going to happen soon if the council don’t do something significant to stop the travellers coming in.

“The council is just sitting there as the recipient of the travellers and all the travellers are doing is playing chase with them all around the borough.

“They are making a mockery of the council.”

It comes after an illegal travellers camp, made up of around 20 caravans, arrived on Lister Road last Wednesday.
