Controversial plans to close Stourbridge tip could now be scrapped following a change in leadership at Dudley Council.

Conservative councillors raised concerns about the plan when it was put forward by Labour.

Now new Tory council leader Patrick Harley said the proposals would be reviewed and, if found not to be suitable, scrapped.

Waste operations would be shifted to Brierley Hill under the plans, sparking concerns over traffic clogging up surrounding roads.

The change in control at the council has thrown the plans up in the air.

Councillor Harley said: "We will have a traffic impact assessment and liaise with ward councillors in Brockmoor, Wordsley and Brierley Hill. If it is not suitable we will put a stop to it.

"It is one of those decisions we had concerns about and they are still very real.

"Unless officers convince us traffic, residents and businesses won't be unduly affected, we will go back to the drawing board."
