Parvinder Singh Rakhra and his sons Joshan and Aran spent a day walking from their home in Wolverhampton to outside Birmingham Town Hall at Victoria Square to raise funds for the Haven Refuge.

The 36-year-old said he and his 10 and 11-year-old sons had been looking for a way to give back at Christmas and said he chose to support the Haven after being told about them by friends.

He said: “We wanted to buy gifts for people who wouldn’t get one at Christmas and my friends told me about the Haven’s Christmas appeal.

"I got in touch and asked about buying gifts for the children they help and although they said they can’t accept gifts because of Covid, they were doing the appeal to raise funds.

“We’ve personally donated £500 to the fund and decided to do this walk to raise more money for the Haven.

"The money raised will go towards ensuring the mothers and children staying with The Haven over the Christmas period have an amazing time and can make happy memories together away from abuse.”

The 16-mile fundraising appeal has raised £975 so far and is looking to raise a maximum of £5,000.
