The driver's Nissan Almera is believed to have hit the back of a van and lamppost before flipping onto its roof in Walsall Road, in Perry Barr, on Sunday.

The 70-year-old driver was confirmed dead at the scene soon after the collision, near to the junction of Perry Avenue, at around 2.15pm.

West Midlands Police officers are now trying to investigate the circumstances around what happened and are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time.

Tests will be carried out to establish if a medical episode contributed to the collision. No-one else was injured.

Sergeant Dean Caswell, from the force's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Our thoughts are with the man's family at this extremely difficult time.

"We are trying to establish the circumstances around the collision and need to hear from anyone with information which can assist our enquiries.

"We are particularly interested in hearing from anyone with dashcam footage. We appreciate the patience everyone showed while road closures were in place."

Anyone with information is urged to call West Midlands Police on 101, quoting log number 2332 of August 23. Alternatively, witnesses can email fl_collision_invest@west-midlands.pnn.police.uk
