Driver suffers serious leg injuries in crash

A serious crash has closed a main road.

The two-car crash happened on Hagley Road, Harborne, and the road is likely to be closed for a number of hours.

One driver is believed to have suffered serious leg injuries, police said.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We are currently on Hagley Road at the junction with Lordswood Road in Harborne, Birmingham, following a serious collision between two cars just before 1.30pm this afternoon.

"One driver is believed to have serious leg injuries and a diversion has been put in place as the road is likely to be closed for a number of hours while investigations get underway. Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible.

"Enquiries continue and anyone with information is asked to contact us via Live Chat at west-midlands.police.uk between 8am and midnight, or call 101 anytime.

Shaunna Farley, spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "West Midlands Ambulance was called to reports of a road traffic collision involving two cars at 1.25pm this afternoon on Hagley Road. Two ambulances attended.

"Upon arrival crews found two patients, one man in his 40s from a car that had driver’s side damage had suffered potentially serious injuries.

"He was treated at the scene and taken by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

"A woman in her 40s from the other car, which had suffered front end damage, was assessed at the scene and was discharged with minor injuries."
