Emergency services were called to Poplars Road, Solihull, at about 7.30am.

Two ambulances and a paramedic officer were sent to the scene and the road was shut throughout the day while police officers started their investigation.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “Crews arrived to find a woman in a critical condition after being involved in a collision with a bus. Sadly, nothing could be done to save the woman and she was confirmed dead by paramedics on scene.”

Detective Sergeant Alan Hands, from West Midlands Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We are in the early stages of our investigation and I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened to get in touch with us as soon as possible."
