Seriously injured man remains in hospital after bus and car crash

A man remains in hospital today with 'life changing injuries' after a crash between a bus and car.

The crash happened on at the junction of Friary Road and Hamstead Hall Road in Handsworth around 2.30pm yesterday.

The double decker National Express number 16 bus was involved in the crash.

The route runs from Great Barr to Birmingham city centre.

Ambulance service officials say the car driver was trapped and had to be rescued by firefighters.

He was taken for treatment to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

A teenage boy, who was a front seat passenger, also suffered serious injuries and was taken to Sandwell Hospital.

The bus driver suffered minor injuries but did not require hospital care. No passengers on board were hurt.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "The driver of the car was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries, which are believed to be life changing."
