Police received a 999 call just before 5.30pm yesterday after reports of gun shots being fired from a vehicle in Arthur Street near the junction with Bolton Road in Small Heath, Birmingham.

Nobody was hurt in the incident, with police cordoning off the scene for a fingertip search.

Detectives carried out inquiries on the car believed to have been involved and stopped a vehicle in St Andrews Road, Bordesley, just after 1am this morning.

A 27-year-old man from Oldbury was arrested and is currently being questioned over the shooting. The car has been seized for forensic examination.

Detective inspector Tom Hadley, from West Midlands Police Force CID, said: “It’s understood to have been a targeted shooting and that the offender knew the intended victim.

“Fortunately no-one was injured but clearly discharging a firearm in public, especially in late afternoon when many people will have been out and about, is a hugely reckless act and could have had fatal consequences.

“If anyone witnessed the shooting or has any information about who may have been involved then I’d urge them to call us so we can bring the offenders to justice.”

West Midlands Police Force CID can be contacted on 101 or people can call the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
