One more Covid death confirmed in region

One further coronavirus death has been confirmed at a hospital in the Black Country.

It means the total number of Covid hospital deaths in the region increased to 7,579 after the latest figures were released by the NHS on Sunday.

On top of this, a total of 1,397 people have died in the region's care homes after contracting coronavirus.

NHS England confirmed a further three deaths on Sunday, meaning 86,964 have now died in the country's hospitals after testing positive for Covid.

The death was announced at the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, which runs Sandwell General and City hospitals, taking the total to 1,173.

A total of 800 people have died at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, 737 at the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust and 720 at the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust.

Meanwhile, 1,376 have died at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust.

And a total of 2,608 people have died at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. The trust runs the Queen Elizabeth, Heartlands, Solihull and Good Hope hospitals.

A total of 41,730,517 vaccinations have been carried out across England to date – including first and second doses.

In the Midlands, 5,550,858 first doses of the coronavirus vaccine has been administered, while 2,379,828 second doses have been carried out.

The data includes vaccinations carried out between December 8 and May 1.
