Waste and recycling collections are delayed due to the workers being off, mainly due to Covid-19 related reasons. It follows similar issues last week, when 40 per cent of the workforce was unavailable.

On the authority's website it says: "We are continuing to experience operational delays to waste and recycling collections due to staff shortages. We currently have over a third of the workforce off, predominantly due to Covid-19 related reasons, including NHS requests to self-isolate through Test and Trace.

"Our crew and residents health and safety is of paramount importance, therefore we are working to safely clear as much waste and recycling as possible."

It also says all green bin collections due this week will be suspended. And any residents affected by a missed green bin collection will receive an additional collection at the end of the current subscription period.

All grey bin collections due last week have been collected. If you are due a grey bin collection this week, leave your bin at the collection point and workers will aim to collect it on your scheduled collection day.

If you were due a blue bin collection on January 6, 7 or 8, and this has not yet been emptied, leave it at the collection point.

If you are are due a blue bin collection this week, present your bin at the collection point and leave it there. There may delays to service meaning that blue bins are emptied at later days than scheduled.

The council adds: "Please accept our apologies for any disruption, crews are working hard to complete as much work as possible on a considerably reduced workforce."
