Sunita Banga, aged 43, from Wolverhampton, and Emily Bowles, 31, from Wolverhampton, launched an initiative called Sharing Is Caring on September 23.

Since its inception, Ms Banga says the campaign has "grown and grown" and she has been left "totally overwhelmed by everyone's generosity".

The presents are set to be delivered on Monday to women living in refuges, rough sleepers and children in need of help.

Ms Banga and Ms Bowles, who are midwives at New Cross Hospital, in Wolverhampton, have asked anyone wishing to donate to contact them through their Facebook page.

Ms Banga said: "We have been totally overwhelmed with the response we have had.

"This campaign has took off. People have been really generous. We are really overwhelmed."

She continued: "The presents will go to ladies that have been rehomed into Wolverhampton through domestic violence, we have got women that are in refugees. We have also got pregnant women in there and families who are vulnerable financially themselves.

"We have had some people, the general public, who have approached us through the group, and they have explained their own personal circumstances.

"We get lots of referrals from health professionals as well like health professionals and midwives.

"We also support the homeless in Wolverhampton. The gift for the homeless, in there, is like toothbrush, toothpaste, shaving cream, razors, shower gel, deodorant, hats and gloves.

"For the women, again it is toiletries, sanitary products, handles, perfume, beauty products, just some nice things for women's gifts.

"The children's boxes have got toys in them, gloves, chocolate, puzzles, all sorts of really nice gifts that people have donated. There is some pyjamas, pants and socks."

People interested in donating items are asked to send them in shoe boxes or in wrapped paper.

Excel Church, in Bilston, has been used as a drop off point for presents.
