The Stourbridge Lion shut its doors as a precaution on Saturday, September 26, Amber Taverns – which runs the pub – confirmed.

The pub, off the town's High Street, will remain closed for 14 days and undergo a deep clean.

The venue is expected to reopen on or around October 10 and 11.

A spokesman for Amber Taverns said: "The decision to close the premises for 14 days was prompted by dialogue and a meeting with the Environmental Health Officers.

"After reviewing protocols and Test and Trace documents it was thought that there could have been a couple of people in the premises that had since tested positive.

"Whilst we cannot be certain the designated premises supervisor quite rightly had to err on the side of caution and request that we invoke the outbreak protocol.

"This protocol requires the bar to close for 14 days and to ensure a deep clean is done to clean and disinfect the property.

"The protection of our customers and the wider community from the transmission of Covid-19 is paramount to the company.

"We will further update our risk assessment and Covid-19 protocols with the latest guidance prior to reopening."
