The new app – which goes live on Thursday – means people will be able to use a QR code to check in to places on their phone.

It means NHS Test and Trace will be able to contact customers with public health advice should there be a virus outbreak.

Councillor Nicolas Barlow, Dudley Council's cabinet member for health and adult social care, said: "Throughout the pandemic we have pulled together as a community to help protect our most vulnerable and the new app is another way in which everyone can play their part.

"With coronavirus cases rising quickly in the region, it is essential that businesses capitalise on the benefits this app and the QR codes can bring to protect themselves, their business and their customers.

"I would also urge residents to download the app, it takes seconds to scan a QR code and it is a great way to help keep ourselves and others safe."
