Residents must try the Government system first before booking through the council-led pilot scheme in Fenton, Burton or Stafford.

People must live in Staffordshire or Stoke-on-Trent to attend, with tests bookable 48 hours in advance and only 100 available each day.

Alan White, Staffordshire County Council’s leader, said: "We want to ensure as many people as possible who need a test in the city and county get one and we are working with the Government to actively find ways to increase availability of testing for local people with symptoms.

More Covid-19 coverage:

"I would also remind people that slots are very limited, so please don’t book a test unless you really need one."

Tests will be carried out at the Kingston Centre, Fairway, Stafford, with the centre open between 9.30am to 2pm.
