Professional fitness instructor Glyn Page, from Rugeley, has been going above and beyond to not only get people moving but also focus on their mental wellbeing.

Normally he teaches groups at local schools and community centres, but as this was halted due to Covid-19 Glyn moved his exercise classes online.

Glyn, 38, who has been working as a fitness instructor for almost 20 years, said: "I have been doing sessions online for parents and also kids to help keep fit during lockdown.

Watch Glyn in action:

"I think it helps people a lot who have been feeling isolated or have been struggling, particularly at the beginning of lockdown.

"Working online has given me more flexibility with times for classes and I have also offered a range of workouts including chair aerobics, band workouts, high and low impact sessions."

More Covid-19 coverage:

The dedicated trainer built a studio in his garage where he live streams classes two times per day, and as restrictions have began to ease, he has started hosting boot camp sessions in the park.

Known as 'The Fabulous Fitness Instructor' online, Glyn has built up a steady following on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter where he posts dance routines and healthy cooking videos.

Glyn's videos have now been viewed more than 150,000 times by people all over the world.

As youngsters returned to school before summer, teachers from St James Primary School and St Thomas of Canterbury School in Walsall had been playing his videos to their pupils as part of their morning workout.

Previously, Glyn worked as an actor, which included working as an extra in Doctor Who alongside Chris Ecclestone and Billie Piper, and later became a fitness trainer for Chico from The X-Factor.

Glyn's business was severely affected by lockdown, with lots of memberships to his classes cancelled, but he has kept on going and is now looking to reopen his in-person classes in September, while continuing his online classes and also going into Staffordshire schools as term resumes.

He added: "It has been hard financially as some people have cancelled their memberships, but I have tried to work in different ways.

"I think there needs to be just as much focus on improving fitness as there is on the Eat Out to Help Out scheme.

"Although I will be starting some classes in September, there are still restrictions with social distancing.

"Some people still don't feel comfortable going back out into classes or to the gym, so I would recommend that they continue or begin online classes.

"It is not just about weight loss, it's the whole package including mental health, self-esteem, being fit and feeling happier, which exercise helps with."
