The Beacon Centre for the Blind has put out an open letter on its website to talk about the coronavirus pandemic and how it has affected the centre.

The centre, which is based in Wolverhampton, helps to support people living with sight loss, but has had to suspend a number of its services during the pandemic.

In the letter, it says it is currently losing around £25,000 per week and has lost its fundraising stream through the cancellation of events and temporary closure of its shop.

The centre has asked for public health with funding to continue running services such as its Talking Newspaper service and its phone support service.

It has said donations can be sent in through Paypal and credit card, with either a one-off payment or a regular donation to be set up.

A £5 donation can be made by texting BEACONCRISIS (all one word) to 70085 or, for a regular donation of £3, text GIVEMONTHLY (all one word) to 70085.
