Phil Humphries has created about 100 roses and 10 dogs and has written a note with each one thanking the frontline workers for what they are doing during the coronavirus pandemic.

The 66-year-old retired decorator said it keeps him busy as he is shielding.

He added: "I started because I'm on lockdown as I'm more susceptible to coronavirus.

"I've been doing this for eight hours a day for four weeks now.

"I'm now retired so it keeps me occupied in a way, I need to keep doing things.

More Covid-19 coverage:

"I enjoy doing origami and have done it since before my teens.

"Now I've got more time to do it and I've been using up things in the house as I can't go out now.

"At this stage I've made about 10 dogs and about 100 roses.

"I've already given some to my doctors' surgery.

"The NHS has always been brilliant for me, and I think now is a bit of a wake up call with what's going on."
