The Ashmore Inn, at Ashmore Park, Wednesfield, has been busy collecting donations of food and essential supplies from local people, which are being sent out to residents on the estate who are finding it difficult to get to the shops during the current lockdown.

Teams of volunteers have spent the last few weeks helping licensee Kevin Ward by bringing parcels of food and cleaning materials to the Griffiths Drive pub.

The parcels are then being distributed to any vulnerable residents struggling to get adequate essentials at the moment.

More Covid-19 coverage:

Councillor Phil Bateman, who along with his wife Councillor Mary Bateman, has contributed to the efforts being made at the pub, urged residents to continue supporting Mr Ward with donations.

“I am so proud of our community here in Wednesfield North. The Ashmore Inn may not be open as a public house at the moment due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but that hasn’t stopped the licensee using the newly refurbished premises as a volunteer-run food bank,” he said.

“As members of the community, Mary and I decided we would also muck in and do our bit.

“I would encourage anyone out there who can, to find a tin, some moisturiser, cleaning fluids, detergents or food.

“Please do your best, as many of those in our community are having a really hard time at the moment."
