Areema Nasreen, 36, died in intensive care at the hospital where she had worked for 17 years in the early hours of Friday morning.

Areema, who had three children, had been on a ventilator after initially becoming unwell when she contracted Covid-19 in late March.

Areema is now believed to be the youngest health worker to die in the UK after contracting the virus.

Support services staff, joined by others from the hospital, held a minute's silence for Areema yesterday.

A spokesman for Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust said: "Two of Areema's cousins are valued members of our support services team and we want them and Areema's friends and family to know she and they are in our thoughts and prayers."
