The Prime Minister, who tested positive for coronavirus 11 days ago, was admitted to intensive care at St Thomas' Hospital in central London on last night, where he was given oxygen after his health deteriorated sharply.

It has left stunned politicians from across the region praying that he makes a swift recovery.

Mr Johnson's close political ally and friend Gavin Williamson, the Education Secretary and South Staffordshire MP, said: "The Prime Minister is a fighter. That is what he has been doing throughout this crisis, always with the very best interests of this country at heart.

"Equally, as he battles the coronavirus personally I have no doubt he will be showing that exact same courage and determination.

"Now is the time for the country to come together and do everything we can do to defeat this virus."

In a message to the PM she said: "Our country needs you back. Thank you for showing such strong leadership on Covid-19."
