A Stone charity is continuing to support residents in need – despite measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus putting a temporary stop to its weekly activities.

Hub Grub, drop-in café and craft sessions are currently off the menu at Stone Community Hub’s base at the Frank Jordan Centre in Lichfield Street. And the hub is closed to visitors, with just designated staff and volunteers allowed access.

Stone Community Hub is continuing to run a food bank however, accepting donations and delivering supplies to those in need.

Emergency food parcels containing essential items can be delivered to vulnerable residents and those in self-isolation who are unable to leave their home. Anyone in need of a parcel can arrange a time for it to be left outside their door for them to collect.

Service manager Emma Walton said the hub was expecting to see an increase in demand in the coming weeks.

She added: “We have had three people this morning who have moved in from Stoke homeless into a local hotel, but they had no food. We have had some supplies donated this morning which we can give them.

“I don’t think people’s money has run out but we are expecting it to get a lot busier. And we’re starting to go out and deliver to people who need it.

“All our fundraising events have stopped and we need people to help us. If people can’t leave the house we’re there for them.”

Anyone who would like to make a donation to the food bank can arrange to deliver it or for it to be collected – or take it to donation boxes at Stone’s Morrisons and Barclays branches.

The hub is also welcoming financial donations to continue its work. To make a donation visit stonecommunityhub.org.

To request an emergency food parcel call 01785 812417 or text 07395 668115 between 10am and 12pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday.
