Up to 300 free tickets are available for people in and around the Midlands to attend an Adult-only event to promote better mental health and take time out for themselves.

The already popular events are being made free for one night only after organisers realised how the unique evenings helped de-stress their visitors so much, that it brought a more mindful feel to the event.

The tickets are available to book for the event next Wednesday, starting at 5pm, from Eventbrite here.

Michelle Thompson, who holds the prestigious and enviable title of Master Model Builder at the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre in Birmingham said the change in visitors from the start of the evening to the end, was evident.

“For many adults, stressed out parents especially, they don’t often get the chance to regress and act like kids. The stresses and strains of modern-day life is tough, and after a day in front of a laptop, looking after the children or stuck in meetings, it can be hard to switch the brain off and truly relax and think differently about life.

“We have been running these adult events for the past 12 months and truly for some they have been life changing. People really are able to build themselves happy, see new opportunities in life and also meet a whole new pool of people, so it’s great to see and be a part of,” she added.

In fact, a recent survey carried out by the centre on 100 visitors, found 78% of those who attended said that they felt pressure in their everyday life and 93% said that they felt more relaxed after partaking in the evening.

Michelle added: “We really think now, more than ever, people need to take more care of their mental health which is why we wanted to open this up for free to more people

Emma Mather, a West Midlands based mental health professional who supports businesses with their wellbeing, said it was vital people took in activities which helped them switch off from stress and protect from the demands of daily life.

“LEGO is a perfect example of how adults can find their calm in what has become a very chaotic world. Building with it helps to adopt present thinking approach and enables adults to focus, improve concentration, and become more accepting and less judgmental of current stress in life. There is also some research which shows that playing improves working memory by 40%, so this is most definitely a great place to start.

“It’s great to see that LEGOLAND and other large and small companies across the region have recognised this and show that support and a piece of mind that has previously been missing. These adult LEGO evenings are a great idea for anyone wanting to unwind and also meet new people, which is also great for our mental wellbeing.”
