Staff at St Mary's Hospice are getting ready for Christmas Jumper Day on December 6

Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice is asking supporters y to dig out their most festive knits this December, in a bid to raise much-needed funds for the charity.

The hospice’s ‘Christmas Jumper Day’ will take place on Friday, December 6 and see

friends, families, colleagues and pupils wear their best pullovers to help raise money for crucial end-of-life care.

This year, the charity, which cares for individuals living with life-limiting illness, is encouraging people to wear their Christmas sweaters in support of all its services, including its growing Hospice at Home team.

The charity’s Hospice at Home nurses provide compassionate care to people who are at the very end stage of their illness, as well as support families and loved ones too. This Christmas, they will be helping local people to stay at home by providing the expert care and support they need to avoid unnecessary and sometimes distressing hospital admissions.

It will cost over £28,000 to provide Hospice at Home care this December – 64 per cent of which must be raised through generous voluntary donations.

Charlotte Dowling, corporate and community fundraising manager at Birmingham St Mary’s, said: “Whether your sweater sings Rockin’ Robin or is one your nan knitted, by wearing your Christmas jumper, you will be helping local people to spend their Christmas in comfort and surrounded by the ones they love.

“Taking part is really easy – simply wear your favourite Christmas jumper on Friday, December 6 and make a donation to the hospice online.

"You can do it at work, at home, at school or even down the pub – wherever you choose, it’s a great way to enjoy some festive fun whilst doing some good over the Christmas period.

“For those of you who haven’t got a festive sweater, we have 17 charity shops across Birmingham, Sandwell and Solihull where you’ll be able to pick up a fantastic knit at a bargain price.”

Christmas Jumper Day is part of Birmingham St Mary’s ‘Care at Christmas’ campaign – a festive appeal which aims to boost support for the charity leading up to and over the Christmas period.
