"All practice staff were engaged with the process and information was shared informally and through a central store of electronic documents available to all staff." The report highlighted how the centre's safety systems developed in response to concerns in secondary care, had even been adopted at other practices in the area.

The centre, which currently has around 7,600 registered patients, was also complimented for its 'innovation' in purchasing ultrasound equipment, and employing a sonographer to provide diagnostic and pelvic ultrasound services.

The highest grade of Outstanding was also awarded for leadership at the centre, with the CQC inspector stating: "There was a clear leadership structure and staff felt supported by the management."

Bilbrook was graded as good in providing effective, responsive and caring services. 'Patients said they were treated with compassion, dignity and respect and were involved in decisions about their care and treatment,' the report added. 'We saw that staff treated patients with kindness and respect, and maintained confidentiality.'

Janet Williamson, Deputy Chief Inspector of General Practice and Dentistry in CQC's Central region, said: "It is clear Bilbrook Medical Centre is providing an effective, responsive and well-led service which is a real asset to the people living in this part of Wolverhampton.

"Patients were treated with dignity and respect and the premises had been developed to improve patient experience with particular emphasis on vulnerable groups.

"High standards were promoted and owned by practice staff with evidence of good team working across all roles. There was a strong focus on continuous learning and improvement at all levels."

Senior partner at Bilbrook Medical Centre, Dr Peter Maidment, said: "We are delighted that the hard work of the whole practice team in developing great outcomes for patients has been recognised."
