The Midland Metropolitan Hospital in Smethwick was originally meant to open its doors in 2016, but now bosses do not expect it to open until 2019.

The delays have been so long that outline planning permission which was granted in 2008 is due to run out next year, and so hospital bosses are having to apply for an extension.

The delays had cast doubt on whether the construction of the Midland Metropolitan Hospital in Smethwick will go ahead, but with this new application and demolition work well underway bosses say the scheme is moving forward.

The 670-bed hospital will be built on a 47-acre piece of land between Grove Lane, Cranford Street Heath Street and Dugdale Street.
