Plans launched for 5G mast in Smethwick

By Jamie Brassington | Smethwick | Environment | Published:

Plans have been submitted to install a 20-metre-tall 5G phone mast in a Black Country borough.

The proposed location

The blue mast has been earmarked for land on Roebuck Lane, in Smethwick, close to Dartmouth Road.

The proposed location is situated in an industrial area, on a roadside between LA Metals and Concept Flooring Supplies.

Alongside providing 5G, the phone mast will also improve the 4G coverage and capacity in the area, planning documents say.

A planning application, submitted on behalf of H3G UK Ltd to Sandwell Council, said: " The location has been chosen due to the width of the grass verge which is able to accommodate a telecoms installation and due to the industrial nature of the area.

"This location is considered suitable for the installation and will benefit from the nature of the area."

Council bosses will make a decision on the plans at a future date.
