Car bursts into flames on the M6

A car has burst into flames on the M6 in Staffordshire this afternoon, causing delays for drivers travelling north who had to be stopped.

Plumes of black smoke rising from the car spread across the carriageway between Junction 11A, for the M6 Toll, and Junction 12, for Telford.

Traffic was stopped while firefighters extinguished the fire.

Two lanes have now reopened but Highways England has told drivers to expect delays.

Highways England, posted on Twitter: "Car fire now being dampened down and vehicle recovery to be work to be carried out."
