Boy, 8, died after being hit by bus in Birmingham

A boy has died after being hit by a bus in Birmingham.

The eight-year-old was cycling along Wilton Road, Erdington, at around 3.15pm on Monday when the crash happened.

Emergency services were called and paramedics treated the boy who was taken to hospital with critical injuries, but he died later that day.

The driver of the bus was spoken to at the scene and officers continue to make inquiries into the crash.

Sgt Chris Ridge, from the force's collision investigation unit, said: "Our thoughts are firmly with the family of the young boy who tragically lost his life.

"The road is a really busy road and we are sure that there are a number of witnesses who have not yet come forward.

"I am directly appealing to them to get in touch so we can continue to establish the circumstances that surrounded yesterday's tragic events.

"The family of the young boy are being liaised with by specialist officers and they have asked for their privacy to be respected at this sad time."
