Motorcyclist dies at scene of fire engine crash

A motorcyclist has died at the scene after being involved in a crash with a fire engine.

The Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service vehicle - which was not responding to an emergency incident - crashed with a motorbike at around midday today on the B5405 at the small village of Ellenhall, near Eccleshall.

The male rider of the bike was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road is closed this afternoon while investigations are underway.

A Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We are sad to confirm that a fire appliance from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service was involved in a road traffic collision with a motorcycle around midday on Saturday April 9 on the B5405 Ellenhall near Eccleshall.

"Despite the efforts of emergency services the male rider of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident.

"Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service would like to express our sincere condolences to the family of the motorcycle rider at this difficult time."

We are currently assisting Staffordshire Police with their investigation into the incident. We are unable to comment further at this time but Staffordshire Police will release further information about the incident as it becomes available.

A Staffordshire Police spokesperson, said: "Police and other emergency services are currently dealing with a serious road traffic collision in the Stafford area.

"Emergency services are continuing to deal with the incident and more details will be issued later.

"Motorist are asked to avoid the area as the road will remain closed for some time whilst the investigation continues."

Any witnesses are being asked to call Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident 295 of April 9.
