Little Explorers Day Nursery in Streetly has now been rated good by Ofsted.

Inspectors had previously claimed that children’s safety had been compromised during a day trip, however they have now accepted that the nursery manager has ‘worked hard’ to address any issues.

The nursery has now been rated good overall by the education watchdog.

There are currently 59 children on the roll at the Foley Road East Nursery.

Ofsted inspector Trisha Turney said: “The manager has worked hard to address the weaknesses found at the last inspection.

“Rigorous processes are used for self-evaluation which includes the views of parents, other professionals and children.

"As a result, the nursery is continuously improving. Staff are good role models and play alongside children to teach them how to share and take turns.”

“Children learn to understand what acceptable behaviour is and as a result, they behave well.

"The manager and staff work well together. They have successfully improved the nursery and ensured all requirements are met.”

Staff at Little Explorers celebrate their good rating

It continued: “A concern was raised recently regarding a child accessing the outdoor area unsupervised by staff.

“However, the provider took swift and decisive steps to help prevent any reocurrence and to minimise any further risks to children.”

The nursery was reinspected in July after being rated inadequate in March.

It has been rated good in all aspects, including effectiveness of leadership, quality of teaching, personal development, behaviour and welfare and outcomes for children.

The nursery provides funded early education for two to four-year-old children.

Nursery manager Karen McWhinnie said: “We are pleased with the outcome of our Ofsted inspection which took place on July 11.

“After the inspection which lasted for the whole of the day we have been given a rating of good. We believe this is a more accurate reflection of our nursery.

“It is a tribute to the staff here at the nursery that we got this rating and we will be celebrating this achievement with them as they deserve it for all their hard work.”

“Looking forward we will not be standing still, we are happy with this rating but recognise we still have improvements to make to reach an outstanding which is our aim.

“We want to say a massive thank you to all of our parents for their support.”
