Stourbridge MP Suzanne Webb read The Gruffalo to pupils virtually at Colley Lane Academy in Halesowen.

A Year 2 class heard the story written by Julia Donaldson of a mouse who survives the attention of fox, owl, snake and The Gruffalo himself to take a walk in the woods.

The book is an international favourite for generations of children.

Ms Webb said: “This is a special day for all children who love the power of storytelling and I was very proud to tell this classic story to them.

“It was a shame I had to do it on Zoom but hopefully next year I can go in person. Thank you to the school for letting me take part and to the children for listening so attentively.”

Sadie Miller, teacher, said: “It was a fantastic start to our World Book Day activities having Suzanne join us as a guest reader. Her enthusiasm and joy of reading shone through and really helped to promote the love of reading that children at Colley Lane have.”
